When drilling down to find a specific set of records, you may often need to search only within your current Found Set. This feature lets you search sequentially, narrowing your results as you go. In TradeSchool, this is called Constrain Found Set.
How to Constrain your Found Set
- Perform a find so that your database contains a found set.
See How to make a find request. - Switch back to Find Mode and enter criteria to narrow the search.
You can click Omit to exclude records matching a specific set of criteria. - Before clicking Perform Find, choose Requests menu > Constrain Found Set.
Example 1
To first search for all Inside Apprentices, then constrain the found set for Apprentices with the last name Smith:
- Perform a find for “Inside” in the Program field.
- Go to Find Mode and enter a second request: type “Smith” in the Last Name field.
- Choose Requests menu > Constrain Found Set.
Example 2
To find all active Inside apprentices who have not turned in a March 2023 work report:
- Perform a find for “Inside” in the Program field.
- Go to Find Mode and enter a second request: type “3/2023” in the Date field under the Hours tab.
- Click Omit to exclude apprentices who have the March 2023 work report from your found set.
- Choose Requests menu > Constrain Found Set.
